What This Stage Looks Like
Our youngest infants begin by discovering the world through objects, textures, and sensory play. As they grow more comfortable and confident, they observe and interact with their classmates, building the foundations of social connection.
They then begin recognizing faces and photos of their family and classmates – connecting words with objects and experiences.
By year’s end, many are confidently exploring their environment — walking up ramps and steps with support, communicating their needs, and enjoying simple riding toys as their independence begins to emerge.
What Our Infant Teachers See
This age is a privilege because we get to watch these children begin to recognize themselves as individuals. They start wanting to walk instead of being carried, feed themselves rather than be helped, or communicate their preferences clearly — sometimes with an enthusiastic (and repeated) ‘no!’
